Learning to relax in all of life's situations is vital to your health and impacts your success at work and home.

Relax is an easy enough word to say, but it proves a little more difficult to do when stress levels are high. As your stress level increases, hormones in your body increase and make your body think you are in danger. As these hormones give your brain a bath you start to change what you are thinking and how you are processing information coming in. This is the time you need to relax so that you can make a good decision.
Taking a deep breath in and slowly letting it go tells the central processing unit in your brain to relax. This allows for a break in the hormone cycle that was causing the stress to begin with.
What can you do? There are several ways to help break that hormone cycle and calm your mind.
Breathing for Calming
The most simple thing to learn is how to control your breathing. Essentially you want to begin to focus on how you breath when you are not stressed or frustrated. Just take a few minutes each day to concentrate on your breathing. Don't try to change your breathing at this point, just recognize how you are breathing. Do you inhale or exhale longer? Do you breath in deeply or sigh as you exhale? Make a journal of the days and times you are noticing your breathing and the qualities of your breathing. #calmmymind #destress
As you get comfortable monitoring your breathing you can start to change your breathing patterns. Start practicing while you are calm and already relaxed. How you desire to feel will direct how you should change your breathing. There are different ways to control your breathing in order to calm your mind. In general, you want to exhale for three times as long as you inhale. This is something you will need to practice daily in order to reach the goal - it's not quite as easy as it seems. You can do this on your own or you can use an app to help you out.
